My goal as VP is to continue the mutual service that has been the theme of our class right from orientation. I hope that most of all this year I can get a good start at raising up a significant donation for our class to present to a charity at our graduation. Few classes have chosen to make graduation something other than an elaborate celebration for themselves but I hope that our class will choose to make our graduation about giving back. None of us got into medical school on our own; getting here has taken the support so many other people, especially those closest to us. Our whole lives through graduation school have been pretty self-centered because that what it takes to gain the training and skills to be a doctor. We've focused on ourselves so that we'll have something to give back to others that we wouldn't have been able to give otherwise; an uncommon gift that we can use to do uncommon good. After graduation we'll begin a change in focus from ourselves to our patients. At graduation we can either choose to continue to focus on ourselves and celebrate ourselves or start from day one to begin giving back by taking all that we've received over these many years and spread good through the lives of so many. This choice will set tone for the rest of our practice of medicine and like all important choices we must decide now how we will choose when the time comes. I know the character of our class and I believe that we will choose others before we will choose ourselves like we have been doing these last three months.
