Attention J/24 Boat Owners!

Each year, the GW MBA Sailing Team hosts the Colonial Cup MBA regatta. The regatta utilizes J/24 sloops and attracts top MBA sailors from across the nation. All proceeds from the regatta go directly to one of the most precious causes on the Bay -- Chesapeake Region Accessible Boating (CRAB).

CRAB is a local organization dedicated to making sailing available to individuals who are physically disabled. With its specially designed boats and trained staff, CRAB shares the wonderful experience of sailing with those who would never otherwise have such an opportunity -- boosting their confidence, improving their physical strength and introducing them to our marvelous sport!.

We ask that you please make your boat available for next year's regatta.

The regatta is tentatively scheduled for early April, which may require putting your boat in the water a little earlier than usual but is early enough that it shouldn't conflict with other regattas. All arrangements for the pick up and care of your boat will be handled by Jahn Tihansky of J-World Annapolis -- so you know your boat will be in good hands.

As for the sailors who will be using your boat: don't worry, they are mature, experienced sailors and have always returned boats in as good or better condition than when they were received. Safety and caution are of utmost concern to GW, J-World and all participating sailors. In the unlikely event of an accident, your boat will be covered by insurance (additional insurance/liability information will be explained by Mr. Tihansky).

We would be grateful for the use of your boat. If you provide your boat free of charge, you will receive a letter from GW indicating your tax-deductible contribution in the maximum amount of a three-day J/24 charter. If you are unable to provide your boat entirely free of charge, an appropriate charter fee can be negotiated -- though again, we beseech your generosity when establishing the fee. A negotiated amount below the market rate will reward you with a tax deduction equal to the difference. Also, all boat owners who provide their J/24s are invited to attend the Colonial Cup Dinner.

If you are willing to make your boat available, or if you have any questions, please send an email to mbasail@gwu.edu. We look forward to hearing from you and thank you very much for your generous support.
