“Emerging India: Rights and Responsibilities”

A March conference hosted by the India Project, brought legal luminaries from India to GW Law to present addresses that were then analyzed and discussed by international law experts. “Containing the Militancy in Northern Pakistan”

World-renowned cricketer and Pakistani politician Imran Khan visited GW Law in June to discuss his proposals for engaging militant movements in dialogue rather than armed confrontation, arguing that it is the only method that will help curb the increasing violence in northern Pakistan. Khan heads the Pakistani Movement for Justice party and served in Parliament from 2002-07. The lecture was co-sponsored by the Institute on Religion & Public Policy and the ABA Section of International Law.


Italian Justice Delivers Enrichment Lecture

Associate Dean Susan Karamanian, professor Francesca Bignami, Italian Constitutional Court Justice Sabino Cassese, and Dean Frederick M. Lawrence gather before Cassese’s lecture, “Is There a Global Administrative Law?” in April. Cassese also spoke a few days later to Bignami’s Comparative Law Seminar and Law of the European Union classes. Professor Bignami hosted at least one speaker per month for her Global Law Workshop Series, opening up the lectures to anyone who wanted to attend.

“Judicial Interpretations in the Chinese Legal System”

Chinese criminal defense lawyer Chen Zerui discusses judicial interpretations of China’s Supreme People’s Court while professor Donald Clarke translates. The East Asia Law Society hosted the event in February and billed it as the ultimate insider’s view on practicing law in China.
