Upcoming Events

The 20th Annual Towson University Geographic Information Sciences
Conference (TUgis 2007) is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, March 19-20,
2007. The conference is sponsored by the Towson University Department of
Geography and Environmental Planning and will be held on the Towson
University campus.

TUgis 2007 continues a tradition of offering an exceptional professional
education and networking opportunity for GIS practitioners, geospatial
businesses, college and university faculty and students, and K-12 teachers.
Conference features include presentations in plenary, poster, and
concurrent sessions; exhibit area with up to 50 exhibitors; map competition
and gallery; job mart; mini-workshops on topics such as "What's New in
ArcGIS 9.2 and ArcGIS Server"; special sessions for K-12 teachers; student
paper sessions; and post-conference workshops

The Call for Presentations for TUgis 2007 will be distributed on Friday,
September 29, 2006. The deadline for presentation proposals is Friday,
December 1, 2006.

Even if you are not planning to make a presentation at TUgis 2007, we hope
you will attend the conference next March to help us celebrate our 20th
year of providing quality professional education opportunities to the GIS
community in Maryland and the Mid-Atlantic region.

Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004
In conjunction with Potomac Geophysical Society, MADAAG is sponsoring a talk by David Applegate, Senior Science Advisor for Earthquake and Geologic Hazards at the US Geological Survey. Dr. Applegate will be speaking about the December 2004 Indian Tsunami.


When: 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2005
Where: Fort Myer Officers Club in Arlington, VA
Reception: 6:30 p.m.; Dinner: 7:30 p.m.

February 23 Urban geographers and lovers of micro-brews will enjoy an EVENING AT FRANKLIN'S BREW-PUB in Hyattsville, Md. Our speaker will be Mark Ferguson, president of the Hyattsville Community Development Corporation, who will talk about inner suburban development in Prince George's County, with a particular focus on the Route One corridor which is now slated for millions of dollars of retail and housing where once stood acres of car dealerships and blight.
