Randall Phelps, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Phelps earned his Ph.D. in Molecular and Cellular Biology and his M.D. from the University of Washington in 1999 and 2001, respectively. Dr. Phelps completed his residency in Pediatrics at the University of Michigan in 2004. He is currently in the final year of his fellowship in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Dr. Phelps is the representative for the University of Pittsburgh to the National Environmental Education and Training Foundation’s (NEETF) Children’s Environmental Health Faculty Champions Initiative.

Dr. Phelps is currently engaged in research in the neurophysiological impact of prenatal pesticide exposure. In collaboration with a group led by Dr. Herbert Needleman at the University of Pittsburgh, Dr. Phelps is using auditory brainstem response testing to assess the effects of prenatal exposures to organophosphates, phthalates, pyrethroids, lead, mercury, and nicotine on nerve transmission and synchrony in the auditory brainstem of newborns.
