Sergio Waisman specializes in modern Latin American literatures and literary theory. His book Borges and Translation: The Irreverence of the Periphery was published in English by Bucknell and in Spanish by Adriana Hidalgo (both in 2005). Professor Waisman has translated five books of Latin American literature, including The Absent City by Ricardo Piglia, for which he received an NEA Translation Award in 2000. His first novel, Leaving, which traces a Jewish family's migrations from Poland to Argentina to the US, was published in 2004.
