Rabbi Leila Gal Berner received ordination from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College and a doctorate in medieval Jewish Studies from UCLA. For two decades Rabbi Berner has combined rabbinical and academic work, and has taught at Swarthmore and Bryn Mawr Colleges, the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College and Emory University. She currently teaches courses at the George Washington University on Women in Judaism and serves Congregation Bet Mishpachah, both in Washington DC. She has served Reconstructionist congregations in Maryland, Pennsylvania and Georgia. Rabbi Berner was the founding director of the Center for Jewish Ethics at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College and currently serves as the Chair of the Advisory Board for the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association's Rabbi's Manual Project. She is a commentator in the Kol Haneshamah prayer book series published by the Reconstructionist Press. She has also authored several articles for The Reconstructionist magazine.
