Professional Affiliations
Stephen Smith is the former Director of the Institute for International Economic Policy at George Washington University, where he is also co-PI of the Elliott School's Climate Change Adaptation Initiative and its Ultra-Poverty Initiative. He is a professor in the GW Department of Economics.
He serves as co-Principal Investigator, along with Prof. Jim Williams, of GW's partnership with BRAC University (in Bangladesh), which was initiated in 2004. Smith also serves on the advisory board of BRAC-USA. He serves as an associate editor of the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization.
Prof. Smith organized and served as first director of GW's International Development Studies Program. He also served as director of the Research Program in Poverty, Development, and Globalization at the Economics Department from 2001 to 2009.
He is a member of the American Economic Association, among other professional economics organizations.
