Affiliated Scholars | Institute Fellows

Each semester the Institute offers space for GW undergraduate and graduate students to be residential Fellows at IERES. Students whose research concerns Europe and/or Eurasia are welcome to apply at the beginning of each semester. They should send a CV and a letter expressing their interest, describing their research project and explaining why they think their research could benefit from interaction with the faculty, visiting scholars and others at IERES. Applications should be sent to ieresgwu@gwu.edu.

Call for Undergraduate and Graduate Fellows at the Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies

The Institute for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies is calling for applications from GW students for Institute Fellows at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Fellows should have some clear interest and research related to Western, Central or Eastern Europe or the former Soviet Union (working in fields such as history, politics, international relations, economics, culture, geography, anthropology, or other related areas). Institute Fellows will be provided with a work space and a computer. They will be encouraged to give a presentation on their research (either a formal talk or an informal work-in-progress), invited to attend all events at the Institute, and will have the chance to work with the professors and visiting scholars at the Institute. Institute Fellows are expected to have some regular hours when they are doing their research at the Institute and interacting with others at the Institute. Institute Fellows will be appointed for a semester, with the possibility of extending the appointment for another semester.

Applications are due by Wednesday Sept. 17.

Applicants must attach a short cover letter to their CV, explaining why they are interested in being a Fellow and how it connects to their areas of interest, study and/or research. Applicants with a concrete research project are preferred. Please e-mail the cover letter and CV with the subject heading “Institute Fellow competition” to ieresgwu@gwu.edu.

Applications will be reviewed by a panel of professors at the Institute, and applicants will be notified of the outcome by Monday Sept. 22. Those accepted can begin their projects at the Institute later that same week.
