Institute for Equity and
Excellence in Education
Welcome to the George Washington University Institute for Equity and Excellence in Education
home page. The Institute for Equity and Excellence in Education (IEEE) has been
established within the
Center for Policy Studies within
the George Washington University's Graduate School of
Education and Human Development to promote system wide educational reform, improve student
achievement and help school systems to target excellence for all students. The Institute carries
out its mission through a program of integrated leadership initiatives which:
Promote research on school reform policies that support high standards
for all students,
with special attention to policies that address the needs of special populations, including students
who come from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds;
Support efforts to assist educators and their communities to develop,
adopt, and share
teaching and learning practices that lead to educational excellence for all students;
Increase service to schools and school districts through better
coordination among
technical assistance providers;
Provide technical assistance across a broad range of measurement issues,
including
student assessment and program evaluation; and
Encourage appropriate assessment of limited English proficient students
in the areas of
language proficiency, academic achievement, and program evaluation.
The IEEE carries out critical elements of its mission
through the Evaluation Assistance Center (EAC)
East, which provides a range of programs and
an array of technical assistance services to States and schools.
The related resources of the Institute for Equity and Excellence in Education build on a
solid base: the
institutional capability of The George Washington University, which was founded in 1821 as a
private,
non-sectarian co-educational institution. George Washington University has a strong track record
in
educational leadership and teacher training, is accredited by the Middle States Association of
Colleges
and Universities, and boasts a wide range of educational facilities with a unique capacity for
conducting
research, delivering technical assistance and providing services to schools with diverse student
populations.
Strong links to a number of George Washington University's resources have played and will
