The Institute for Communitarian Policy Studies at The George Washington University, the
nation's leading center for communitarian policy research, is a nonpartisan research
organization dedicated to finding constructive solutions to social problems through
morally informed policy analysis and open moral dialogue. In its research papers and other
publications, the institute seeks to bring the best scholarship and analysis to bear on
policy issues affecting family, schools, the community, and the moral climate of society
as a whole. It is committed to fostering a greater sense of personal and social
responsibility among individual citizens; to strengthening the cohesion of families and
local communities; to encouraging reconciliation among different racial, ethnic, and
religious groups; and to fostering a national policy debate more cognizant of
humankinds moral horizon and the social responsibilities of the individual and the
community. Its aim is to contribute to effective solutions, derived from democratic
dialogue, through a careful elucidation of alternative policies and competing models of
social conduct in light of their moral implications and their likely practical
consequences for family and community life.
