Emergency Management Principles and Practices

ICDRM has completed an extensive project for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Emergency Management Strategic Healthcare Group. The emergency management project produced the following products to assist in innovative training and personnel development curricula for the VHA Emergency Management Academy:

  1. VHA-EMA Emergency Response & Recovery Competencies: Competency Survey, Analysis, and Report. The Survey Analysis Report outlines the background research, methodology and results’ analysis conducted for the development and validation of the VHA-EMA Emergency Response & Recovery Competencies. The full list of these competencies is included as an annex to the Report.

  2. Emergency Management Principles and Practices for Healthcare Systems. This is a detailed instructional curriculum that presents the full spectrum of emergency management for healthcare professionals. The five-volume set addresses the history and concepts of Comprehensive Emergency Management, Hazard Vulnerability Analysis, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery. The Incident Command System (ICS) and its many important principles are presented for understanding by healthcare professionals, and guidance is provided for incorporating ICS into a healthcare organization’s Emergency Operations Plan. Training, exercise, system evaluation and organizational learning are also covered in an instructional format. An extensive emergency management glossary is included.
