How can I get information and an application package for the Graduate Certificate Program?
Please send an e-mail request to Mr. Greg Shaw that includes your full name and postal address. Application materials will be sent to you.

Can I apply online?
Yes! Please click here.

What materials should I return with my application?
The completed and signed application for admission must be accompanied by a nonrefundable application fee of $60, a statement of purpose ( An essay of 250 to 500 words, that indicates your purpose in undertaking graduate study in this field, career plans, related qualifications, including collegiate, professional, and community activities and any other substantial accomplishments not already mentioned on the application form) and official or certified copies of academic records (more details are given in the application package)

Where do I submit my application?
The Institute for Crisis, Disaster, and Risk Management does NOT administer applications. The application should be submitted to the address written on the envelope provided within the application materials.

I missed the application deadline. Can I still register to take a course?
Yes, you can register as a non-degree student. Click here for registration information. Transfer of credit regulations apply to courses taken as a non-degree student through GW's Division of University Programs; that is, up to 6 credit hours may be taken in non-degree status before applying for admission to degree status.

I applied for your Certificate Program (or am currently in the Program). How can I change it to Masters Program? Will my credits be transferred towards Masters Degree?
You need to re-apply for the Masters program. The Procedure is the same. Click here for general requirements or here for program specific requirements. If you get admitted, successful grades (A or B) may be transferred towards your Masters Degree upon the approval of your advisor and the department chair. Credit applied toward a previous degree may not be transferred. (For purposes of transfer of credit, the SEAS graduate certificate program is not considered a prior degree; at the discretion of the department concerned, the 18 credit hours earned in a SEAS certificate program may be applied to a subsequent degree program.)

I have already applied for the Certificate Program. Could ICDRM provide any information on my application status?
Since we do not administer the admission procedures, you may wish to contact the Director of Engineering Admissions at 1-800-537-7327 for your inquiries on your status.

What are the admission deadlines?

What are the admission criteria?
Criteria for admission to the Certificate Degree are similar to Masters Degree requirements. Click here for more information.

The Certificate program is offered under the School of Engineering and Applied Science. However, I do not have a background in engineering or applied science, do I qualify for the Program?
Engineering Degree is not a requirement. An appropriate bachelor's degree (in Arts or Sciences) from a recognized institution is required.

Do you offer distance education courses?
We believe that classroom experience is a central learning component of our educational program, so we do not offer distance education courses at this time.
