The George Washington University Institute for Crisis, Disaster and Risk Management (ICDRM) is proud to announce the sixth Homeland Security, Emergency and Risk Management Forum of the 2006 - 2007 academic year on Tuesday, April 24, 2007.
Presentation Description:
A description of the MMRS and its evolution since its establishment in 1996 and how a local community has
incorporated it into their planning. MMRS is a federally funded program that focuses upon integrating and
maximizing medical response across jurisdictional borders within a specified metropolitan area. It was a
direct outgrowth of the Tokyo Sarin attack in the mid 1990s.
Brief Bios:
Lorrie Jacobson has over eight years of experience in emergency management, emergency medical services, and public
health. Her experience includes supporting and interfacing with federal, state, and local clients in emergency
management preparedness, training, and exercises. She has contributed to the integration of GIS into several
preparedness and mitigation projects. Additionally, Ms. Jacobson has in-depth experience with community
medicine clinical research programs. Ms. Jacobson earned her BA from the University of Rochester in 2001 and
her Masters in Public Health from The George Washington University in 2004. She is a certified EMT-B and
volunteers for Sterling Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Dr. Barbera has been involved with the MMRS program in a range of roles since 1999. He was a member of the
Institute of Medicine initiative that evaluated the MMRS program in 200-2001, and was an active member of
the Arlington County (Virginia) MMRS Steering Committee from 2002-2005.
