The George Washington University Institute for Crisis, Disaster and Risk Management (ICDRM) is proud to announce the first Homeland Security, Emergency and Risk Management Forum of the 2005 - 2006 academic year on Tuesday, September 27, 2005. We are also proud to announce that for the sixth consecutive year, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), is providing financial support for the forum series.
Presentation Description:
The panel of presenters will discuss the Hurricane Katrina response
operations in the state of Mississippi. They will provide their first
hand observations and analyses.
Dr. Joseph Barbera deployed to Mississippi as the Medical Team
Manager for the Fairfax, Virginia Urban Search and Rescue (US&R) Task
Force, which conducted primary search operations in many shore areas of
Mississippi destroyed by the storm surge and winds.
Dr. Anthony Macintyre deployed as the Medical Officer for the FEMA
Urban Search & Rescue Incident Support Team, which integrates the many
US&R Task Forces into the local response effort. He supported the
County coroners and other officials, and will discuss strategy for
effectively supporting state and local officials during a catastrophic
incident.
Dr. Marvine Hamner, deployed to Pascagoula, Mississippi as an
observer for the American Red Cross and assumed significant management
responsibilities within the local Red Cross Chapter for response
operations.
