Employee Leave
The University supports its employees' ability to balance their
work and home lives by providing several leave options, with certain
restrictions and limits, including paid annual and sick leave, leave
under the Family and Medical Leave Act, leave under the District
of Columbia Family and Medical Leave Action and leave under the
District of Columbia Parental Leave Act, as well as other options
for paid and unpaid leave.
This section provides supervisors with guidance on how to administer leave, including
approving employee leave requests, consistently applying University leave conventions, and
establishing and maintaining accurate leave records. Supervisors are responsible for
assisting employees in managing their leave so that employees are able to take time away
from work and, at the same time, ensure operational requirements are met. Guidance for developing
administrative approaches to this responsibility is available from the Employee and Labor Relations Division.
The University reserves the right to modify or discontinue its
leave programs in whole or in part at any time, except as required
by law..
