Through exercises and discussion, participants explore the law and GW's
policy on disability discrimination and accommodation in the workplace.
Participants learn to identify individuals who qualify as disabled under the
Americans with Disabilities Act. Additionally, current case law is examined
and reasonable accommodations are explored.
Through exercises and discussion, participants explore their beliefs,
stereotypes and cultural norms to learn how to prevent them from interfering
with work productivity. Participants learn that stereotypes are a natural
method to order thought and are only negative when used in a manner which
injures others. While this program does not link diversity to business
objectives, participants are encouraged to use the information gained about
themselves to positively effect the work place. Participants are
encouraged to interpret verbal and nonverbal communication and identify how
culture affects the communication processes. Participants may also identify
past misunderstandings and/or prevent future misunderstandings that stemmed
from a lack of cultural knowledge.
Through discussion, participants explore the law and GW's policy on
discrimination in the work place. Participants are taught specifics about
the various federal and local laws that protect against discrimination in
the work place and which have become known as Equal Employment Opportunity
laws. Special emphasis may be placed on discrimination on the basis of race,
disability, sexual harassment, or as requested.
Through case studies and discussion, staff members explore the law and
GW's policy on sexual harassment in the workplace. Participants learn to
identify various behaviors that may constitute sexual harassment, are
updated on recent case law about appropriate responses, and are familiarized
with GW offices that respond to complaints about sexual harassment.
Through case studies and discussion, supervisory staff explore the law
and GW's policy on sexual harassment in the workplace. In addition to the
information conveyed at the staff sexual harassment seminar,
supervisory staff focus on the supervisor's responsiblity in monitoring and
responding to complaints of sexual harassment. Supervisors are also
updated on recent case law that focuses on organizational and personal
liability.
