GW Looks to Rebuild Next Season on Top of Returning Core
The 2008-09 season is fast approaching for the Colonials and it should be an exciting one. The Championship coaching tandem of Joseph Baratta and Tim Schliftman will be joined by GW Hockey Alumni David Lamond in his first season behind the bench. The Colonials should have some strong defense this coming season with the return of David Baratta, Ryan Stewart, Denis Folan, and Gordon Scott and a number of exciting defensive prospects will be joining the fray. MVP goaltender Bill Weiderseim will be returning in goal and will also be joined by one of a number of qualified goaltenders set to try out for next season. The Colonials Offense was hit hard by graduation losing perennial high-scorers Ian Manzano, Will Manske, Colin Gilmartin, and Jonathon Hixon as well as clutch-goal-scorer and scrapper Jonathon Salter. GW will remin strong down the middle with Will Denise, Michael Potolicchio, and Jonathon Moynihan serving as centers as well as All-Star winger Wylie Melberg and solid wingers Casey Mitchell and Chris Bruen to serve at their sides. Forwards Maxx Kleiner and Sam Rogers and defenseman David Waterman will be returning from terms abroad and will be expected to contribute immediately.

Colonials Cap Most Successful Season to Date with CCHC Championship Win!
Last night at Fort Dupont, the Colonials beat long-time rival Loyola College 5-3 to win the first and only CCHC playoff. The playoff MVP award was given to goaltender Bill Wiederseim whose incredible save in the closing seconds of the game allowed GW to keep the lead. GW would like to thank head coach Joseph Baratta and assistant coach Tim Schliftman for leading the team the second half of the season, which only featured 2 losses out of 9 games including the playoffs. GW players were the recipients of a number of other rewards - goalie Bill Weiderseim, freshman winger Wliey Melberg, and veteran defenseman David Baratta were all named to the CCHC 2nd Team All-Stars and seniors Jonathon Hixon, Jonathon Salter, Colin Gilmartin, and William Manske and junior David Baratta were all awarded ACHA Academic All-American awards. GW looks to continue this tradition of excellence in the seasons to come.
