The ever accelerating rate of change in today's world means that educational
institutions and their leaders must do more than merely deal with the
dynamics of change. Financial pressure, growth in technology, shifting
roles, public scrutiny, evolving demographics, and competing societal
values are only a few of the forces affecting education. These elements
are complicated by the rapid rate of change in the world both within and
beyond our national borders. Education leaders must learn how to transform
their organizations into a new order of educational entities to meet these
demands and challenges. The research agenda of this new Center will focus
on the issues, processes and impact of change within educational institutions
(pre-school, K-12, higher education, post-secondary and adult education)
and their supporting communities as well as the role of leaders and members
of these organizations in the change process.
The research agenda of the Center will focus on three main questions:
I. What are the factors or conditions that affect efforts to engage
in comprehensive change in educational institutions?
II. What is the role of leadership in transformational change?
III. How do change efforts vary by the specifics of the change initiative,
e.g., technology, faculty roles, finances, class size, multiculturalism,
etc.?
