Employment
If you are interested in working at the Writing Center, here is some information on employment:
- The Writing Center is staffed by undergraduate and graduate students.
Undergraduates
- Our undergraduates complete an application and then an interview with Writing Center staff. We accept applications all year, but interviews are conducted primarily during the Spring semester. Students accepted to the program enroll in English 111W, Introduction to Peer Tutoring in Writing. This is a three-credit course taught by Dr. Schreiber, the director of the Writing Center. The tutoring course is offered in the Fall semester of each academic year and will count as an elective toward your graduation credits. Upon completion of English 111W, students may begin to tutorat a pay rate of $10.00/hr. If you are interested in employment as a tutor, please fill out an application. Applications can be handed in at the front desk of the Writing Center at any time. We encourage all those who are interested to apply! If you have any questions, e-mail us at gwriter@gwu.edu.
Graduates
- Graduate students also go through an application and interview process but complete a shorter training period prior to tutoring. Graduate tutors are hired typically at the beginning of the Fall semester of each year, but feel free to contact us at gwriter@gwu.edu with employment inquiries.
Receptionists
- We also hire work-study receptionists as needed, usually at the beginning of the Fall semester of each year.
