Title: Early Implementation of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act: Workforce Development and Unemployment Insurance Provisions Interim Report
Funding: U.S. Department of Labor
Researcher(s): Burt Barnow
Start Date: June, 2011
Summary: This project is a study of the use of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds for workforce investment programs. The three-year project includes two rounds of site visits to 20 states and 2 local areas per state to investigate how the ARRA workforce funds were used, innovative projects undertaken with the funds, the major challenges andaccomplishments of the states and local areas, and how areas are coping now that the funds have been spent. A report was prepared after the first round of site visits, and a final report will be prepared in the spring of 2012. The first round of sites visits showed that most states were able to spend their money consistently with federal guidelines and that there was a great deal of need for the services provided. States have maintained many of the innovative practices started with the ARRA funds, but they have had to serve fewer customers now that the funds are no longer aavailable.
