Controlled Blasting to Begin Again on Square 54 Construction Site

To facilitate the excavation of the Square 54 development site located at 2200 Pennsylvania Avenue on The George Washington University's Foggy Bottom Campus, there may be up to three controlled blasting activities daily. Air horns will be sounded at increments prior to each blasting activity and following the blast to indicate "all clear."

Residential housing and nearby office buildings will not be directly affected by the events. However, those near the area may hear the air horns and the controlled blasts. The noise level is expected to be comparable to a large truck passing by.

Sidewalks adjacent to the site will be closed temporarily during the blasting event.  Adjacent streets also may be temporarily closed during the blasting event at the direction of D.C. Metropolitan Police.

Boston Properties, the project's developer, and their contractor, Clark Construction are managing the development of this site.

GW will continue to update Campus Advisories and http://neighborhood.gwu.edu with further information as needed.

Additional information on controlled blasting and Square 54 construction updates can be found on the neighborhood Web site.
