About the Reaffirmation Process

Every 10 years, GW undergoes a reaffirmation of the University's accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The reaffirmation process includes an intensive self-study and a site visit by a team of evaluators, scheduled for early Spring 2008. The expected timeline of the full process is as follows:

February 2006

  • Appointment of Self-Study Steering Committee

February-April 2006

  • Development of Self-Study design
  • Development of charges & research questions for Self-Study Working Groups
  • Recruitment of Self-Study Working Groups
  • Development of documentation roadmap

March 2006

  • Submission of the preliminary Self-Study design to MSCHE

April 2006

  • Organizational meetings of Working Groups

April 27, 2006

  • Visit by MSCHE staff liaison, Robert Schneider

May 2006

  • Submission of formal Self-Study design to MSCHE

September 2006-May 2007

  • Self-Study

May-July 2007

  • Organizing and editing of Self-Study report

August 2007

  • Posting of the Self-Study report on the GW website for review by the GW community

September 2007

  • Review of Self-Study report by the GW community
  • Further editing of draft report

October 2007

  • Preliminary visit by Evaluation Team chair and generalist evaluators

November 2007

  • Final editing of Self-Study report
December 19, 2007
  • Preliminary visit by Evaluation Team chair

March 30 - April 2, 2008

  • Visit by MSCHE Evaluation Team
April-May 2008
  • GW's Response to Evaluation Team report
