Funding Opportunities Provided Through the Office of Fellowships and Graduate Student Support

The following are awards which Political Management students may apply for through the Office of Fellowships and Graduate Student Support. Please contact this office at (202) 994-6822 or at gradfell@gwu.edu for more information.

Columbian Women's Scholarship

The Columbian Women Scholarship is a tuition award (tuition only) for the 2005-06 academic year and is restricted to:

  • female students (either U.S. or foreign),
  • who are enrolled in a graduate program
  • have completed 9 credit hours
  • have a GPA of at least 3.5
  • have applied for and qualified for financial aid through the GW Financial Aid Office.
  • Students already receiving a scholarship, fellowship, tuition credit, or any combination of these that covers their full tuition are ineligible.
  • All scholarship recipients are required to attend the Scholarship Brunch, participate in the Scholarship Fundraiser, and turn in a bio and picture to be used for PR.
  • Applications are available in Phillips 107 and must be returned by Friday, March 1.
  • Applications must include a letter of support from a member of the faculty, which addresses the student’s academic achievements, contributions to the profession and community, and future plans.

Scottish Rite Endowment Graduate Fellowship Program

Fellowships of up to $10,000 toward tuition, established through income from a Scottish Rite endowment given to The George Washington University are awarded annually to full-time incoming or current graduate students at The George Washington University. A candidate must be affiliated with a U.S. Scottish Rite Organization (father/grandfather/uncle/spouse/self must be or, if deceased, have been a lifetime member of the Scottish Rite), be a U.S. citizen, demonstrate academic excellence, and be accepted as a full-time student by a graduate program in The George Washington University. http://www.gwu.edu/~fellows/scottish.html


Global Leadership Program

Ten graduate fellowships are available for students who are from the following countries or regions: Cambodia, Eastern Europe, Laos, Latin America, The Caribbean, Mongolia, People’s Republic of China, Sub-Saharan Africa, USSR Successor States, and Vietnam. Grantee must provide funds from other sources for books, living, and other expenses, equivalent to a minimum of $9580 for 9 months and must provide certification of this support. The fellowship is renewable each year. The grantee must earn a GPA of 3.3 or better in order to renew the fellowship. Grantee must be currently in or obtain upon award, J-1 exchange status. http://www.gwu.edu/~fellows/global.html

Women in Government Relations Inc. LEADER FOUNDATION

Fellowships for Our Future Assists Women Pursuing Public Policy Careers

The Women in Government Relations Inc. LEADER Foundation is accepting
applications for its scholarship, Fellowships for Our Future. The annual $4,000
scholarship award is designed to assist women who are pursuing careers in
government relations or public policy.

To be eligible, applicants must demonstrate the following:

  • Financial need
  • A history that has required a break in employment or education
  • A history of community involvement
  • Proof of enrollment or acceptance into a baccalaureate or advanced
    degree program, or non-degree granting training program which supports a career in public policy
  • Permanent or scholastic residency in the Washington D.C. area.

The Women in Government Relations LEADER Foundation is the philanthropic
arm of Women in Government Relations, Inc. The Foundation provides
resources, and training to women to strengthen management and other skills
critical to leadership in business and public policy. The organization
also sponsors the Young Women's Seminar on Careers in Public Policy, and
the Academy for Leadership Excellence.
