The GSPM welcomes non-degree seeking students into its courses on a space-available basis. Each semester we publish a list of courses that are appropriate for study by those not enrolled in our master's programs.
In the past, students have taken GSPM courses as single course enrollments for one of two reasons:
- Some students are specifically interested in the topic of the course and are seeking to improve their professional skills in politics.
- Other students use single course enrollments as a way of trying out the GSPM curriculum. In some cases, they are in the process of applying to the degree program and this option allows them a way of beginning their studies a semester before formal admission. Up to three graduate level courses can be transferred into the degree program under this option.
NEW Non-Degree Registration Instructions
To apply for admission as a non-degree student, complete the short online application. This form takes about 10 minutes and simply collects your contact information, education level up to this point, and program of study in which you are interested. A one-time $25 application fee must be paid online by credit card to complete the online application process.
The fee is waived for those who enrolled in GW courses in the past and for current GW faculty and staff members using their tuition benefits. In these cases, the student should simply file the hard copy application.
If you have NOT broken enrollment as a former non-degree student (for example, you took a class as a non-degree student in summer 07 and want to take a class in the subsequent fall 07 semester), you do not need to submit the hard copy application and the $25 fee is waived.
Once you have submitted the form and received a GWID number, contact Suzanne Farrand to register for any courses. We'll need your name, GWID and course requests. Non-degree students may NOT use the online registration system to sign up for courses.
Remember that all non-degree students are bound by the academic and financial policies outlined in the University Bulletin. Please familiarize yourself with these policies prior to any registration.
