Support from your own Government - Each country may have
different programs for supporting study in the United States. You
should check with your countrys Education Ministry to find
out what support they offer their citizens to study abroad in terms
of loans and scholarships. For example since the GSPM is a unique
program our students from Canada and England were able to secure
loans from their governments because they could not get the same
education at home.
University Fellowships--Available to about 8 graduate students
in the GSPM. Fellowships are based on scholarship and award a tuition
allowance that cover 3 or 4 courses. When you fill out your application
to the GSPM please specify that you want to be considered for a
University Fellowship.
Long-term loan funds-- Available for undergraduate and graduate
international students are limited in amount and are available only
to those foreign-born persons who have established resident status
in the United States through the Immigration and Naturalization
Service. Usually you must be in the United States for two years
before you are eligible to apply for a loan from the Federal Government.
For private student loan programs international students are eligible
to apply if they have a qualified United States citizen as a cosigner.
If you do not have a US citizen as a cosigner the International
Education Finance Corporation may be able to assist you. Try the
International Education Financial Aid or International Education
Finance Corporation.
Support from the US Government - The United States Information
Agency, Cultural/Educational Affairs Bureau provides some regional
specific opportunities www.usaia.gov. Also try contacting the US
Embassy in your home country. Ask them if the have any Public Administration
studies Grants.
