Application Process

***Check main FAQ page for more information on the Master's Program in Political Management.***

***Click here for a complete list of what is required to be admitted to the GSPM***

International students fill out the same application as American students except International Students have an extra section pertaining to financial certification.   International Students may also be required to take the TOEFL exam. In the event that you do not have a bachelors degree we will review your application if you have the equivalent of a bachelors degree.   A bachelors equivalent is considered to be four years of post-secondary education, usually when students are between 18 and 22 years.

Financial Certification
Students who wish to study in the United States on a student visa must show that they have sufficient funds available to cover expenses for one full year before attempting to enter a college or university.  The entire cost of tution for the Master's Degree in 2005-2006 is $33,264 for the 36-credit degree, which comes out to $924 per credit hour.  This figure does not include room and board and other living expenses.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
TOEFL scores are required of all applicants who are citizens of countries where English is not an official language and who do not hold a degree from an accredited American college or university.   The recommended minimum TOEFL score for admission to any graduate degree program is 550 on the paper-based test or 213 on the computer-based test.  Those applying for graduate teaching assistantships must achieve at least a score of 600 on the paper-based test or 250 on the computer-based test. TOEFL scores may not be more than two years old.

Standardized tests should be taken early enough to allow scores to reach the admissions office before the application deadline.  The ETS reporting code for The Graduate School of Political Management is 5246.  To make arrangement to take the TOEFL contact the ETS at http://www.ets.org/

*** International Students must take the TOEFL and GRE.  They must also complete the Financial Certificate stating how they intend to pay for their education and other expenses while studying in the USA.  Please fill out this form the best you can, providing bank statements, sponsor letters and anything else that can help your case.  Do NOT provide copies - GWU needs the originals.   The Financial Certificate form is found in the application packet.***
