John Olszewski
Master's Degree in Political Management, 2005
A passionate community leader, John Olszewski began his political career in high school as a hand-picked student member of the Baltimore County Board of Education. Olszewski continues his commitment to education as an elected member of the Maryland House of Delegates and as a teacher of American government and history at Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts in Maryland. He was appointed to the Maryland House of Delegates in the summer of 2006 and was subsequently elected to his first full term representing the 6th legislative district that fall, garnering the most support in both the Primary and General Elections. In this capacity, Olszewski works collaboratively with community leaders to ensure the district reaches its full potential.
In Annapolis, Delegate Olszewski serves on the Ways and Means committee,
which is responsible for legislation relating to children and youth; education, including primary and secondary education, community colleges, and scholarships and financial aid; election law; gaming and horseracing; taxes; and transportation funding and revenues. On the committee, Delegate Olszewski serves as a fiscal watchdog over tax policy, and is an important advocate for our children and education. He serves on the education and revenue subcommittees, is on the Maryland Task Force to study raising the age of compulsory education to 18, and functioned as an unofficial chairman of the education caucus during the 2006-2007 legislative session.
Olszewksi attended Goucher College, where he quickly became involved in the activities and programs at the school. He was elected Vice President of the Student Government Association during his freshman year when a resignation created a vacancy, and continued to serve as the organization's President for his sophomore and junior years. As Student Government President, he was responsible for leading the organization through its budgeting process and helped create sweeping policy reforms at the college.
Olszewski graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Goucher College in May 2004, receiving a Bachelor's Degree with Distinction in Political Science and American Studies. He earned a Master of Arts degree in Political Management from the George Washington University Graduate School of Political Management in December 2005.
