Anthony Coley
Master's Degree in Legislative Affairs, 2006
In April 2007, Governor Jon Corzine named Anthony Coley, his press secretary and chief spokesman, the Director of Communications for the State of New Jersey. He is the first African American in the state's history to hold either position.
Before moving to New Jersey in January 2006, Coley was then-Senator Corzine's spokesman in Washington D.C. A veteran of Capitol Hill, Coley has served as communications director for U.S. Senator Zell Miller (D-Georgia) and U.S. Representative Harold Ford, Jr. (D-Tennessee). During the 2004 election cycle, he was a spokesman and regional communications director for the Kerry-Edwards presidential campaign.
The LaGrange, North Carolina native received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Morehouse College. He also earned a Master of Arts in Legislative Affairs from The George Washington University Graduate School of Political Management in 2006.
Calling him a “superb model of communications excellence,” the Public Relations Society of America, New Jersey chapter, named Coley the 2007 Public Relations Professional of the Year.
