Dennis Thomas
Sr. Vice President Public Affairs & Communications, International
Paper, Inc.
International Paper named Dennis Thomas Senior Vice President-Public
Affairs and Communications in 1998. In this position, Thomas was
responsible for directing the company's public affairs activities
and overseeing the development and implementation of the company's
communications.
Previously, Thomas was Vice-President-Government Relations. He
joined the company in 1987 as Director-Federal Corporate Affairs
and was promoted in 1989 to Vice President-Federal Corporate Affairs.
Thomas served as Chief of Staff to United States Senator J. Glenn
Beall (MD) and then in the same capacity for Senator William Roth
(DE). he was then nominated by President Ronald Reagan to be Assistant
Secretary of the Treasury for Legislative Affairs. In 1983 Thomas
was appointed Deputy Assistant to the President for Legislative
Affairs.
In 1985, he became Director of Government Relations and Associate
Director-Washington Service Center for Touche, Ross & Co. Later
that year, Thomas returned to the White House when he was named
to the White House senior staff as Assistant to President Reagan
and deputy to chief of staff. he has served on the board of directors
of Masonite (Africa) Limited, and also served as Chariman of the
Business-Govenment Relations Council, The Bryce Harlow Foundation
and the Council of Public Affairs Executives of The Congerence Board.
He currently serves on the Development Advisory Group of the National
Baseball Hall of Fame.
