Robert Traynham
Associate Professorial Lecturer
Thought provoking, intense, experienced and direct, Robert Traynham brings a powerful blend of political know how and political analysis to "Roll Call with Robert Traynham" and to CN8, the Comcast Network. "All politicians come to Washington with a moral compass emblazoned on their chest, during their first term in Washington," says Traynham. "The relevant question to ask them a few years after being in Washington is whether or not those same politicians still have that moral compass and whether they play by the same rules they campaigned on when first elected. I admire the politicians that stick to their principles -- regardless of party -- and raise my eyebrow at those who don't."
With nearly 15 years of working in Washington, D.C. where politics is the contact sport of choice, Traynham seeks to elevate the discourse in Washington by moderating a political talk show that allows for forward thinking ideas to flourish and offers a fresh perspective with smart talk and lively debate. He applies these same principles when reporting on politics on behalf of CN8, the Comcast Network.
In addition to being the moderator of Roll Call, Traynham is the Washington D.C. bureau chief for CN8, The Comcast Network, supporting CN8's original programming and Campaign '08 coverage from the network’s state-of-the-art studio on Capitol Hill. A seasoned communicator, Robert Traynham brings his political acumen and industry expertise to the network, reporting on breaking news and events, and conducting insider interviews for CN8's original morning and issues oriented programming.
Traynham began his extensive career in public service and political communication in Washington D.C. as a White House intern, followed by an appointment to work for a U.S. Representative in Congress. Traynham's career highlights in senate leadership include more than 10 years of experience working for the United States Senate, serving as president of the United States Senate Press Secretaries Association, a bipartisan group of Senate Communicators, and most recently serving in senior communications positions for several presidential and senatorial campaigns.
Based on his extensive political knowledge, from 2001-2006, Traynham was named one of the top 50 most powerful staffers on Capitol Hill by a leading newspaper.
In addition to his political credentials, Traynham serves as an associate professorial lecturer at The George Washington University where he teaches courses in strategy and message development. He is also a political analyst for National Public Radio and a columnist for the Philadelphia Tribune.
Traynham has a degree in Political Science from Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, of which he serves on the board and he holds a master's degree in Political Communication from George Mason University. In his spare time, Traynham enjoys visiting presidential libraries, mountain biking, cooking, reading biographies, and british royal history. He lives in Washington, D.C. with his life partner Brent Smith.
