Institute for the Environment
The George Washington University Institute for the Environment was created to carry out the GW Green University Initiative. Our mission is to commit the resources and expertise of the University to create a sustainable future. We are working to infuse a strong, positive environmental ethic into all of our activities, including education, research and service, while developing sustainable facilities on our campuses. Partnerships with external entities, such as the U.S. EPA, and memberships in organizations such as the University Leaders for a Sustainable Future and the National Wildlife Federation Campus Ecology Program, help us to advance the concept of the GW Green University Initiative.
The Institute for the Environment is staffed by a director, Larry Hourcle, an assistant director, Polly Berman, and a dedicated team of student employees, interns and volunteers. The students are vital to the operation of the Institute, and assist the committees with their activities, organize special projects through the Institute, plan and conduct events and assist with general office management.
Please e-mail, call or visit us to learn more about the GW Green University Initiative or determine ways that you or your organization can work with us on this exciting endeavor. There are many projects that need both GW student, faculty and staff support and external support by individuals or organizations. Projects and efforts that contribute to the advancement of shared goals and objectives are especially encouraged.
