Recycling at GW

Have you ever wondered about recycling at GW? Green GW has put together a little guide for you.

Recycling at GW is fact not fiction.

Batteries
Alkaline (AA, C, D, etc.) Non-hazardous:
Place these batteries into a 1 gallon container provided by the Office of Risk Management (202-994-3265 or www.gwu.edu/~riskmgmt)
Non Alkaline (ni-cad, gel-lead, button, etc.) Hazardous:
Arrange collection by contacting the Office of Risk Management (202-994-3265 or www.gwu.edu/~riskmgnt)
Plastic
All types Labeled #1-7:
Empty food and water, then place these items into bins around campus labeled "Bottles and Cans"
Aluminum, Steel and Tin
Cans:
Empty food and water, then place these items into bins around campus labled "Bottles and Cans"
Glass
Brown, Clear and Green:
Empty food and water, then place these items into bins around campus labled "Bottles and Cans
Cardboard
Boxes, Pizza Boxes, etc.:
Cardboard must be free of food and other non-recyclable products, flatened and placed in or next to bins labeled "Paper"
Electronics
Desktop and Laptop Computers, Computer Monitors, Printers, Copiers, Televisions, Telephones, Fax Machines, Stereos, Cell Phones, etc.:
Collect items in a central location and submit a FIXit request to ask that they be picked-up for proper disposal. More information about "e-cycling" can be found here
Light Bulbs Containing Mercury
Fluorescent lights including compact fluorescents (CFLs):
If a fluorescent lght bulb (or tube) burns out, submit a FIXit request for replacement.
Paper
Office Paper, Junk Mail, Phone Books, Newspaper, Post-It Notes, Colored Paper, Glossy or Highly inked Papers, Magazines:
Paper free of food and other contaminants should be placed in bins labeled "paper."
An unlabeled, small, blue plastic container is usually placed next to the desk in each faculty and staff office and is intended for reccling of papers.
If a large quantity of papers or phone books needs to be collected, and does not fit into thedesignated paper receptacles, please submit a FIXit request for a special pickup.
Scrap Metal
Pipes, Pumps, Duct Work, Appliances no Longer Containing Refridgerants:
Collect items in a central location and submit a FIXit request for pickup.
Toner Cartridges
Printer or Copier Toner Cartridges:
Collect items in a central location and submit a FIXit request for pickup.
Hard Cover Books
ie Text Books:
Contact groups like Books for Africa to donate these items.
