Georgetown and the C&O Canal . 1995. 36x48.

Based on a rare Civil War stereocard and other images discovered in the Library of Congress, this painting is an effort to bring to life the appearance of the C & O Canal, the Aqueduct Bridge and Georgetown as viewed from the grounds of Georgetown College. The two arching pipes brought the water supply into the district from the receiving pond or reservoir in Georgetown. In the distance is the unfinished Washington Monument which was neglected for decades. Some of the houses near the bridge are still standing.
