Computer-based Annotations of Fairy Tales

Description of the Project

For the computer project, students worked collaboratively to
create a hypertext document (or webpage) that offers an enhanced
reading of a particular fairy tale. The goal of the group projects
was two-fold: 1) to learn and apply research methods utilizing
newer technologies in addition to conventional library research in
order to 2) produce a richly-textured commentary of a specific
tale, with hypertext links to variants, adapations, illustrations,
criticism, and bibliographic information.

Their final products are intertextual readings of their own design, with annotations of various types (verbal, visual, and audio) and critical commentary. In addition to library materials, you are encouraged to explore resources on the World Wide Web.

The group project was designed to promote collaborative (studentstudent) learning in which each student brings her/his respective area of expertise or interest to the project. Each group was assigned a technical assistant, a student in the class who had more advanced computer skills, whose role was to assist those less familiar with HTML or homepage through the technical part of the project. The tech person was NOT there to "do" the technical work for everyone else, but to assist in the collaborative learning.
