The First Federal Congress Project
Documentary History of the First Federal Congress

Purpose of This Mini-Edition

This mini-edition brings together all of the legislative histories, Senate and House debates and a portion of the correspondence of the FFC members on the subject of establishment of the executive departments. Users of the volumes of the DHFFC confront the daunting task of consulting at least nine volumes to follow the complete story of the executive departments. This model makes nearly all (only a sampling of the correspondence is included at present) the material on this subject available and accessible through a search engine that allows attorneys, judges, historians, students and others to thoroughly explore this material, including the more than one thousand times that the U.S. Constitution is mentioned. This demonstrates the power of providing live electronic text for searching.
