LOUGHRAN FELLOWSHIP

The Loughran Fellowship is a tuition award (amounts vary from $2,000 - $6,000 per year, depending on need and availability of funds) available to outstanding students from the Washington, DC Metropolitan Area who have need, are currently enrolled in or accepted to a graduate program in the School of Business (Foggy Bottom campus only, students in off-campus or Virginia Campus programs are not eligible) or in the Law School at GW, and have a minimum 3.5 GPA at the most recent level of study. Residence in DC, MD, or Northern VA must have been established at least 1 year prior to commencement of graduate studies or the applicant or applicant's current spouse must be an active duty member of the U.S. military stationed in DC, MD, or Northern VA.

In order to be awarded a Loughran Graduate Fellowship, a student must have met the Federal Definition of need. The Federal definition of need is established by submitting a FAFSA to the Federal Processor and having the results sent to GW's Office of Student Financial Assistance. If you have applied for graduate loans in the past and qualified for the Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan, you might be eligible for consideration for a Loughran Fellowship.

If, under these guidelines, you qualify and wish to be considered for a Loughran Fellowship, you should either download an application form here (see below), contact the Office of Fellowships at (202) 994-6822 to have an application sent to you, or pick one up in our office, Rice Hall 602. In addition to a completed application form, a 200-300 word essay and official or unofficial transcripts (undergraduate for incoming students and graduate for current graduate students) must be submitted. Military members/spouses who wish to waive the residency requirement must provide a copy of orders assigning them to the DC metropolitan area and stating the member's current status as active duty. The application deadline is Wednesday, 2 May 2008. Applications cannot be considered until the FAFSA has been submitted and results returned to the University.
