Purpose

The Bryce Harlow Foundation Fellowships are targeted for graduate students (J.D. students are also eligible) who are studying part-time while working full-time. Students must express a firm desire to enter the advocacy profession in public affairs, government relations, or lobbying. Generally Bryce Harlow Foundation Fellowship recipients are studying public policy, political management, legislative affairs, business, or law. Applicants must clearly indicate the courses and specific focus of their studies that will lead to a career in advocacy.

Award

The awards of $6,000 will help defray tuition and will be paid directly to the University.

Eligibility Requirements for GW Applicants

Students must apply, and be accepted for admission to a graduate degree program at GW. Current graduate students are eligible.

Applicants must plan to enroll in part-time graduate studies for credit at the University for the fall, spring, or summer semesters of the 2010-11 academic year.

Applicants must demonstrate a substantive interest in, and potential for, an advocacy career in public affairs, government relations or lobbying.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens.

A Bryce Harlow Foundation Committee will select recipients from applicants recommended by participating universities. Criteria are

  • Part-time student working full-time
  • Demonstrated academic achievement and potential
  • Long range goals in professional advocacy through public affairs, government relations, or lobbying, and how past experiences have influenced this career choice
  • Professional achievement and leadership potential
  • Demonstration of a need for financial assistance to undertake graduate studies

Applicants are responsible for submitting the following:

  • Completed application forms (forms may be picked up in the Office of Graduate Student Assistantships and Fellowships, Rice Hall 302, when made available).
  • Official academic transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended.
  • Resume
  • Two letters of recommendation from persons familiar with the applicant. Instructions for recommenders may also be picked up in Rice Hall 302 or downloaded when made available.)

All Materials are due to the Office of Graduate Student Assistantships and Fellowships by 6 April 2012.

Notification

2010-2011 applicants whose files are completed by the deadline will be notified of the Foundation's decision on or before 10 August 2012.
