School of Public Health and Health Services
All students in SPHHS graduate programs, as well as the Ph.D. program in Epidemiology offered in cooperation
with the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, are automatically considered for merit scholarships. Teaching
assistantships are available to M.S. students in Exercise Science and Ph.D. students in Epidemiology and Biostatistics.
Tuition fellowships may be available through the Physicians in Fellowship Programs or through tuition benefits for employees
of The George Washington University. Students seeking research assistant positions should contact their departments or check job postings
available on the University or SPHHS website. For additional fellowship and scholarship opportunities available to
current students, refer to the Apply Now! Calendar on the SPHHS website under "Careers, Jobs, Internships."
DEPARTMENTAL SCHOLARSHIPS
- Merit Scholarships - All applicants are automatically considered. No application is required. Preference for scholarships is given to outstanding applicants who apply early (two to three months before the stated application deadline). Scholarships are generally limited and awarded for the entering semester only.
- Wertlieb Scholarships - Available to outstanding M.H.S.A. applicants who will enroll full-time in the long-term care concentration. Academic awards include: tuition (3.5 semester credit hours for up to four semesters) and a graduate administrative assistantship at the Wertlieb Institute, earning $10 and hour while working 10 hours per week.
- Tauber Scholarships - Fund established by a donor in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. Current SPHHS students who are direct descendants of U.S. veterans of World War II are eligible to apply. A call for applications is sent out each November via the SPHHS listserv; several awards of $6,000 each are made for Spring tuition.
- GWU Hospital (GWUH) Women's Board Scholars Program - SPHHS students in good standing who have been continuously employed at GWUH for at least one year upon application are eligible to apply. In late summer, a call for applications is distributed via the GWUH and SPHHS listservs.
UNIVERSITY FELLOWSHIPS
- Columbian Women Scholarships - Tuition scholarships available to female GW students based upon high levels of academic excellence, commitment to a chosen profession and financial need. Applicants must: be enrolled for the current academic year, have completed a minimum of 9 credit hours of graduate work, and have a minimum grade point average of 3.5. Application deadline is in February of each year.
- Conference Presentation Travel Grants - grants available for those students invited to present at a national or international conference related to their academic area or dissertation research (separate application required - contact the Office of Fellowships, (202) 994-6822)
- GW Presidential Administrative Fellowships -
offers recent GW baccalaureate graduates the opportunity to gain relevant
work experience within the GW administration while pursuing a master's
degree in their chosen field. Students must apply during their senior
year at GW (separate application required - contact the Student Activity
Center, 994-6555)
- Phi Delta Gamma
Scholarship Fund - must have completed at least nine semester hours of
graduate work at GW. Not open every year (separate application
required - contact the Office of Fellowships, (202) 994-6822)
- Scottish Rite Endowment Graduate
Fellowships - for graduate students affiliated with the Scottish Rite (separate application required - contact
the Office of Fellowships, (202) 994-6822)
