Salary and Stipend Payments

Each GTA/GRA/GAA/IA is awarded a package consisting of a graduate salary payment and possibly one or both of the following: Tuition Award and/or Stipend. The majority of the GTA/RA/AA/IA packages contain all three components. Your award package will be outlined in your award letter. It is important to keep a copy of your award letter because if you have questions or problems with your award, the most efficient way to deal with them is to contact the awarding office.

Salary – Your salary is payment for the work you provide to the university. Graduate salary checks are available on the last business day of the month. If you have never worked for the university you must complete I-9 paperwork with the GW Human Resources Department.

Stipend – Your stipend is awarded to cover living expenses and require no services and is a merit award intended to support your academic career. Stipend checks are available on the first business day of the month after 1:00 pm.

Tuition – A tuition award will cover all or part of the cost of tuition. It will be entered into the Banner system by authorized University staff and roll to your student account after you have registered for the required number of credits. If you receive a bill for tuition and you think you should not, you should contact your awarding office.
