WERC Research

The research efforts aim to rectify the paucity of data from research on women's health issues, especially in regard to exercise intervention and common chronic diseases such as hypertension, obesity, and heart disease in women. To date, the American College of Sports Medicine, the Alliance of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation and Dance, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists have accepted several WERC reports for presentation at their annual meetings. Topics reported include the Effect of Exercise duration and intensity during pregnancy; Validation of submaximal arm-leg ergometry for the prediction of V02 max in women; Effect of adding a behavior modification nutrition program on weight loss in exercising women; Attitudes of OB/GYN across the U.S. regarding exercise during pregnancy; Effects of aerobic exercise on psychological symptoms of premenstrual syndrome; and Effects of an aquatic aerobic dance program for adults with arthritis.
