ETL Program - Tech Tip #1

Obtaining GWU E-Mail Accounts

Obtaining GWU E-Mail Accounts -- Beginning in the FA03 semester, all ETL students must have a GW e-mail account.

These will not just be used for mail. The same user name and password will also be used as authentication for access to a number of online services, such as Blackboard, GWEB, etc. Because it is very useful for your GW professional associates to be able to readily identify you by your e-mail address, it is strongly recommended that you not select a "handle" or "screen name". In other words, John Doe would be better advised to select jdoe@gwu.edu over something like 2cool4u@gwu.edu.

To obtain your GW mail address, please go to the following online form. You must be a currently-registered student to do this!

Once you have obtained a GW mail account, there are two online (Web) mail services that you can use to check your mail:

     http://webmail.gwu.edu (Web Mail)

     http://cmail.gwu.edu (Colonial Mail)

You can also use Outlook, Pine, IMAP or POP to check mail. For further information on these, please see http://helpdesk.gwu.edu/helpdesk/email/email.html

Students are strongly encouraged not to forward their GW e-mail to another mail account, and to always use theri GW e-mail accounts when conducting business with instructors and other students. Years of experience have shown that these are the best practices and we ask that you follow them.
