ETL Graduate Certificate Students

At the beginning of your final semester in the program, send an email to the ETL Administrative Office Attn: Sharon Briggs etladmin2@gwu.edu . In this e-mail, indicate your name, day and evening telephone and contact e-mail address. Submit the Application for Certificate Completion to the ETL Program Administrative Offices via fax 202-994-2145. Deadlines for submission of the Application for Certificate Completion are as follows:

Fall Semester Spring Semester Summer Session
December 1st
April 1st
July 1st

Check your transcript on gweb at http://gweb.gwu.edu to confirm that you have completed 15 credit hours (5 courses) to satisfy the requirements of the program. Students should refer to http://www.gwu.edu/~etl/students/list.htm for specific Certificate Program Requirements.


ETL Masters Degree Students

Participation in the annual commencement ceremony held in May is open to all ETL Masters Degree students who have applied to graduate in the current Spring semester or who graduated the preceding Fall or Summer. ETL students who will be finishing their coursework the Summer following the ceremonies and who need no more than 9 credit hours to complete their degree requirements may participate in the preceding May ceremonies. The maximum of 9 credit hours is firm and not subject to petition. Summer graduates intending to attend the preceding Spring Commencement ceremonies must fax in their graduation application at the beginning of the Spring semester.  

Reminder: All graduating ETL Masters Degree students must complete the Comprehensive Exam during their final semester in the program. See Comprehensive Exam for further information.

Procedures 

1. All graduating ETL Masters Degree students must contact Ms. Sharon Briggs etladmin2@gwu.edu within the first two weeks of their final semester to indicate their intention to graduate. In this e-mail, indicate your name, day and evening telephone and contact e-mail address to receive further updates about graduation.

2. Check your transcript on gweb at http://gweb.gwu.edu to confirm that you have completed 36 credit hours (12 courses) to satisfy the requirements of the program. A grade point average of 3.0 is required for graduation. 

Students Formally Accepted Prior to Spring 2000: 
Required: 230, 231, 232, 234, 235, 268, 271, 295
Electives: 4 ETL elective courses of choice 

Students Formally Accepted for Spring 2000 or Later
Required: 230, 231, 232, 234, 235, 268, 271, 291, 295
Electives: 3 ETL elective courses of choice 

3. Fax the Graduation Application to the ETL office - fax: 202-994-2145 / Attn: Sharon Briggs. Students who do not intend to attend the graduation ceremonies must also submit this application. All students will receive a bill for $100 which is for administrative purposes. There are no addional fees associated with attending the ceremony.

February 1st - for students completing degree requirements in the spring semester and for summer graduates who are eligible "walk through" candidates. Students who need no more than 9 credit hours to complete their degree requirements and are able to obtain the needed academic credit hours during the following summer may participate ("walk through") the May Commencement Ceremony.

July 1st - for students competing degree requirements in the summer session.

October 1st - for students completing degree requirements in the fall semester.

Friday Evening May 15, 2009 
The Graduate School of Education and Human Development Ceremony (GSEHD) Gala. See http://gsehd.gwu.edu/gala

Saturday May 16, 2009 
The Graduate School of Education and Human Development Ceremony (GSEHD) will hold their ceremony for graduating students at 8:00 am - 10:00 am at the University Smith Center.  Diplomas will be issued during this time. There will be a reception for graduates and their guests following this ceremony. Tickets to this event will be mailed to students in March 2009.

Sunday May 17, 2009 
The George Washington University Commencement Ceremony for all George Washington University Spring 2008 graduates and eligible "walk through" candidates will be held on the National Mall. The Procession will begin at 9:30 am followed by the Commemcenemt Ceremony at 10:00 a.m. Alternate Site:MCI Center, time TBD. Tickets to this event will be mailed to students in March 2008.


Cap and Gown:  To place a cap and gown order link to the following website: http://commencement.gwu.edu/checklist/CapandGownInformation/ . Cap and Gown orders are accepted in February and March. For graduates who do not pre-order, a limited number of caps & gowns will be available for purchase from May 15 through 18 in-store only!
