Submitting Masters Theses

Starting in Fall 2008, master’s theses can be submitted through this ETD site. They will then become part of the electronic archive of theses and dissertations managed on behalf of universities nationwide by Proquest/UMI.  Starting in Spring, 2009, all GW theses must be submitted electronically through this website.

To submit your final, approved thesis, just follow the instructions for submitting a dissertation. The only differences are that you will indicate on an electronic form that you are completing a master’s degree rather than a doctoral degree and you will be charged less. The cost is $55 for traditional publishing, in which your work must be purchased by readers unless their institution subscribes to UMI and you stand to earn royalties in the (rare) event that many copies are sold; and $150 for Open Access Publishing, in which you thesis will be available online, for free, to anyone in the world. GW encourages its students to opt for Open Access distribution in the interest of sharing the knowledge you have worked so hard to produce with everyone who might be interested or could benefit from it.

Note that in Fall, 2008, you will be charged the University processing fee for theses of $30 only if you submit a paper thesis. If you submit your thesis electronically, you will pay online either $55 or $150, depending on your choice. All of this fee goes to Proquest/UMI, none to GW.
