MANUSCRIPT STANDARDS FOR ETDS AT GW
Each school of the University has materials to guide students who are writing theses or dissertations. Be sure to obtain and follow your school's specific manuscript standards. Some requirements may differ across schools.
To assist you in following some of the schools' manuscript standards, we have created an ETD Guidelines in Adobe Acrobat format (PDF).
All of the schools agree that a thesis or dissertation that follows the format built into the Template will have a format acceptable to them. The Template has built into it such features as:
- model title page
- required margins (1-1/2 inch left margin, 1 inch margins on the top, bottom, and right)
- acceptable type size
- proper ordering and numbering of the elements of any thesis or dissertation.
You can tailor items like the chapter titles to your specific needs or school manuscript standards.
Keep in mind that different disciplines use different styles for the formatting of bibliographies. You will need to use the correct style for your discipline. To help you format your bibliography correctly, Gelman Library System now offers RefWorks, an online tool for organizing your research and creating bilbiographies, free of charge to all GW affiliates.
