Biography

Kotz is the senior co-editor-in-chief of the 13-volume Encyclopedia of Statistical Sciences (1982-1999), an author or co-author of over 140 articles on statistical methodology and theory, 12 books in the field of statistics and quality control (including two books on Process Capability Indices), and three Russian-English scientific dictionaries, and co-author of the four-volume Compendium on Statistical Distributions (First Edition 1969-1972, Second Edition 1993-1997). He is a world authority on this subject area of statistics. In addition, he is an expert on the history of statistics and information theory. He is a coordinating editor and member of the editorial boards of several prominent statistical journals, Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, Fellow of the American Statistical Association, Fellow of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics, and Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute.
