Below you can find some useful information on topics like reciprocity in the District of Columbia, how to recertify as an EMT in the District of Columbia, and several helpful links to Emergency Service-related agencies both within and outside of The George Washington University.

Reciprocity Info

All EMeRG members must be licensed in the District of Colombia as at least an EMT-Basic. EMT certification through the National Registry or licensure in another state by itself is not sufficient, but will allow a prospective member to apply for reciprocity. Once accepted to EMeRG, members will fill out the reciprocity application from the DC Department of Health and turn it in as soon as possible. The process can take about a month, so the sooner it is turned in, the sooner you can begin working. These applications will also be available at the EMeRG Academy.

Recertification Info

In order to maintain your DC EMT Certificate, you must complete 24 hours of elective continuing medical education (CME) in addition to a 24-hour core refresher class every two years. We will be offering refresher classes once per semester. CME requirements can be fulfilled through EMeRG training; through online courses; from the annual National Collegiate EMS Foundation conference; and various other sources.
