Management Team
Marc Berenson became the EMeRG Coordinator in April 2007, and has been a member of GW's Emergency Medical Response Group (EMeRG) since August of 2002. Berenson has remained active in the Emergency Medical Services field since June of 2000, serving as a Mobile Intensive Care Paramedic since early 2004. In addition to being a student manager for EMeRG for three years during his undergraduate tenure, he has held leadership and quality assurance positions in various BLS and ALS agencies in NJ, DC, and Maryland. His experience ranges from rural systems to urban environments. Berenson also currently serves as an EMS/Healthcare Educator, teaching various classes to all levels of providers from lay person to physician, in addition to clinical supervision of EMT and Paramedic students.
John Wainwright is a Senior majoring in Chemistry, minoring in Art History, and has a pending secondary field of study in Emergency Health Services. He plans on taking a year off after graduating to travel the world and relax after the undergraduate grind. John also plans on using his year off to apply to medical school. John is a passionate and motivated individual with interests in sailing, photography, and long, moonlit walks on the beach and has been involved in EMS for several years. He has been an EMT-Basic for three years and, while taking a full undergraduate course load, he finished a Maryland Training Program to become an EMT-Intermediate/99 in early 2007. He is also a Primary ALS provider in Maryland for the Calvert County MICU. John's EMS experience includes both city and rural BLS and rural ALS in MD, DC, and VA. John holds the clinical rank of Crew Chief within EMeRG and his responsibilities as an Assistant Coordinator include planning the new member Training Academy, coordinating the monthly Quality Improvement intiatives with the Assistant Coordinator for Quality Assurance, as well as coordinating EMeRG's Continuing Medical Education and EMT-B Re-Certification program. John is also responsible for overseeing the elevation of EMeRG's Probationary and Lead EMTs through the clinical ranks of the organization. Though his zeal for teaching makes him a perfect fit for his work within EMeRG, John also works at the GW University Hospital Emergency Department as an Emergency Department Technician and helps in the training and clinical supervision of EMT and nursing students.
James Betz has responsibility for performing and coordinating EMeRG's quality assurance and quality improvement program. On a month to month basis James reviews all of the charts written after each call to ensure that EMeRG is performing to the highest standards of patient care. James also reviews the documentation for provider-specific and global trends where EMeRG can improve. By contributing to the continuing education program, James works to further the education of EMeRG providers and improve provider performance. James has been a NREMT-B since 2005 and an EMeRG member since Spring of 2006. He has served in a variety of roles including the QA Officer. He is a Crew Chief within the organization. James has also worked as an Emergency Department Technician in the GW Hospital since 2006. He is currently a senior and expects to graduate with a BS in Exercise Science in 2009.
Brett Reidmiller has responsibility for ensuring the smooth operation of EMeRG on a day to day basis. His main focus is ensuring adequate levels of supplies, and maintaining vital equipment such as AEDs, radios, and EMeRG’s quick response vehicle. Brett has been a volunteer EMT with his hometown ambulance squad for four years. At GWU, Brett is a junior studying in the field of biomedical engineering and plans to pursue further medical education upon graduation in 2009.
Noah Smith handles the paperwork and certification process for all members. Noah is responsible for the upkeep of current and past member's files and the continual maintenance of EMeRG's offices around campus. Noah became an EMT in 2006 through GW and has been with EMeRG for over a year. He has been an Assistant Coordinator since March 2007. A Junior, Noah is pursuing a degree in Psychology with a minor in Emergency Health Services. He plans to go into health policy after graduation.
Robb Hawthorne makes the duty schedule based on availability submitted by members, and coordinates staffing for any special events EMeRG provides coverage for. He also coordinates and schedules all CPR classes taught through EMeRG. He has been working with the Emergency Medical Response Group for 1 year. Robb is a 2008 GW graduate and, while taking even more classes at GW, plans to spend his "year off" working EMeRG, teching at the GW Emergency Department, and praying daily that some med school actually accepts him.
Anne Callen has responsibility for talking to outside agencies and answering any general questions about EMeRG, as well as preparing any press releases and organizing outreach efforts. Anne accepted the role of Assistant Coordinator for Public Relations in Fall 2007. She became an EMT in Spring 2006 through the GW EHS program and has been with EMeRG for over a year. Anne is a Senior studying International Affairs and has a concentration in Global Public Health. She plans to attend medical school after graduating in 2009.
Billy Wolfe is currently a Sophomore in the Columbian College persuing a major in Psychology and a minor in Emergency Health Services and Biology. He is currently certified as an EMT-B in the District of Columbia. As assistant coordinator for human resources, he oversees the new member application process, as well as facilitates intra-agency communication and events.
