An EMeRG Autobiography

We are currently in the process of compiling a thorough history of our organization, so this page will most likely be updated from time to time as we discover more about how we came to be where we are today. Check back now and then to see how our autobiography is evolving!

Our History

Founded in 1994 by EHS students Jacob Abbott and Geoff Shapiro, the Emergency Medical Response Group at The George Washington University is a licensed BLS agency in the District of Columbia. Growing from its initial operation of response on bike in 1996 to the use of a quick response vehicle in 2001, EMeRG gained more patient care abilities by being able to transport non-emergent patients to the GW hospital. A member of the National Collegiate EMS Foundation, EMeRG has been recognized multiple times with the Striving for Excellence award as well as our 10th anniversary of service in 2006. EMeRG has also grown to provide support to the University Police Department for training exercises, as well as providing stand by support for Smith Center games and events, and any other campus activity. Now in its 12th year of operation, EMeRG has a total active membership of 68 students. To date, there have been a total of 255 members of EMeRG.
