Culture in Global Affairs
The Elliott School research and policy program, Culture in Global Affairs (CIGA), seeks to promote the recognition of culture and its policy relevance to global affairs. The concept of culture, especially as researched by cultural anthropologists but also by scholars in other fields, is important to policy formulation in many arenas including health, the environment, development, conflict resolution, and ethnic and minority issues.
CIGA will promote policy-relevant research on culture and support dialogue and collaboration across disciplines. CIGA will bring together scholars and practitioners from the US and abroad to enhance global knowledge exchange and communication with the policy community. Students are an integral part of CIGA through research positions and internship placements.
CIGA's emphasis on the concept of culture in relation to global affairs and policy make it a unique organization in and beyond Washington DC.
CIGA hosts a University Seminar Series which brings to GW each year several distinguished scholars and practitioners from around the world to speak on the relationship between culture, global affairs and policy. This series is supported by the by the University Honors Program.
